Imagine walking into a huge space, where you can see the most innovative and exciting digital marketing technologies. Every step you take is a possibility to meet a colleague, a speaker or someone you were chatting with on Twitter but never had a chance to meet in real life.
Imagine having at least 15 different sessions to choose from at any given time, all filled with inspiring speakers, useful insights and the latest marketing and digital trends.
If marketers had their own heaven – it would be dmexco.

So what does dmexco 2017 has in store for us? Each year dmexco becomes bigger, more exciting – but also more complicated to find your way around. Here are a few tips that can help you make the most of dmexco 2017 - especially if you are attending the event for the first time.
1. Review the floor map and understand where each part takes place
dmexco is split into 11 different halls.
Each hall has a different focus – mobile marketing, multi-channel marketing, startups, services companies, etc.
The stages where keynotes and panel discussions take place are also scattered around in different places. Some are main stages where you can hear inspiring talks and learn all about the new trends and vision of digital marketing, and some are small stages where you can get a lot of practical information to help you refine your strategy.
Study the floor plan in order to know your way around the event, otherwise, you might find yourself losing a lot of time just trying to get from place to place.
For example, Mapp’s booth is going to be located in Hall 8, stand C048-C049. As you can see in the map above, hall 8 is located right next to the northern entrance. We would be extremely happy to meet you there!

2. Download the dmexco 2017 mobile app
Many events and conferences have their own mobile app nowadays. While it may seem annoying to download and install an app just for one event, it really only takes a few minutes and the benefits are huge. You can use the app to plan your visit, screen the exhibitors, choose the sessions you’d like to take part of and make notes. While at the event, use the app to easily find where you need to go and keep track of the agenda.
If there’s an option to sign up to receive push notifications – I would recommend it. Events use push notifications to alert visitors of real time information, such as a change in the agenda, happy hours and discounts for food.
When the event is over, if you no longer need the app, you can always delete it.
A few unique features of the dmexco 2017 app:
- MyPlan – create your own individual plan for the event
- Ticket Wallet - Access and scan your ticket with just one touch
- Interactive floor map
- Points of Interest (WiFi, Toilets, Smoking areas, Food Court, etc.)
You can download the dmexco 2017 app here.
3. Choose the sessions you’d like to take part of
dmexco can be overwhelming for someone who is visiting for the first time. At any given moment, there can be 17 different sessions taking place at the same time, in different locations. My suggestion is to go over the agenda and choose around 3-4 sessions per day that you’d like to attend. Put these sessions on your schedule via the mobile app to get reminders before they start, and then look at the event plan to arrive at least 15 minutes early for small sessions, and 30 minutes early for the bigger sessions – this will guarantee that you have a place to sit. Once the hall is full, it will be difficult to enjoy the session or even get in.
Personally, I’m planning to listen to Maike Abel of Nestle, Kevin Allocca of You-Tube, Sophie Bloom of P&G and Jim Cooper of Adweek. You can see all dmexco speakers here.
4. Set up 1:1 meetings in advance
Got specific brands and people you’d like to meet at the event? Don’t count on finding them in this huge event. Make sure to pre-schedule meetings. You can use the app to identify the most relevant people for you to meet and reach out, or work through social media – LinkedIn and Twitter.
Take into account that getting from one place to another takes time. So leave enough time in between meetings and sessions to find the next place, or try to schedule multiple meetings in a single location.
5. Arrive early
Cologne is beautiful. If you have some time, don’t miss out on the opportunity to explore the Old Town, the magnificent Cologne Cathedral or have a Kölsch in one of the typical brewhouses. I personally plan to arrive early, rest before the intensive event, and enjoy the beautiful city!
Get a glimpse of last year’s event
Last year at dmexco, we launched Mapp Digital for the first time. For me personally it felt like closing the loop – going back to where everything started many years ago with eCircle and launching an even more exciting brand. It was a truly great experience and I’m looking forward to this year’s event.
